Item Description

A pair of Georgian lead garden urns, each with a shallow gadrooned bowl and folded rim supported by three recumbent lions on a circular plinth above a fluted base. Cast in solid lead, they have developed an attractive natural patina of soft grey tones from long outdoor use.

The design reflects the late Georgian preference for classical proportion and clear form. In the early nineteenth century, lead urns of this type were a familiar feature of English gardens, favoured for their durability and subtle colouring. They were often supplied by London and provincial foundries to adorn terraces, parterres, and gateways, complementing the restrained architecture of the Regency period.

The surfaces of these examples show the slight irregularities typical of early casting, the wear and oxidation now integral to their character. Both urns are structurally sound and display the quiet balance and endurance that define Georgian garden ornament.
