Item Description
Early 17th.c. oak coffer c.1640. In the form of a six plank coffer though the larger than normal size means two boards are used for the front and back. Of simple construction with the flat oak boards joined with hand-made iron nails with large 'rose' heads. Lovely naive decoration to the lid and front, with scratch moulded borders, stamped detail and chip carving. Iron lock plate and clasp, fitted with a later working lock (to the left of the lock plate), key supplied. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
