Item Description
A wonderful rare pair of 19th Century French Arras garden benches.
In a timeless green pint with shades of old red peering through giving a stylish patina.
The northern town of Arras was famous for its iron foundries, which produced this beautiful style of furniture up until the Second World War. They used a unique method of extrusion - 'demi tube' - which gave the iron a rounded finish. This allows surface water to drain and prevent rust. It also made for a much more comfortable seat! Arras furniture peppered private and public outdoor spaces in France since production began in 1840 until it ceased in the mid 20th Century. Their garden furniture combines durability and a stylish aesthetic, as seen within the design of this chair. Arras furniture is very intelligently designed as well as being beautiful - the perfect scenario!
