Item Description
The attractive weathered solid lead garden jardiniere of neo-classical design adorned with elegant garland reliefs and amphorae, surviving from the first half of the nineteenth century.
The jardiniere has expected wear and weathering commensurate with age and being exposed to the elements. Crucially there are no flaws, with no holes, repairs or cracks. It has a hole drilled for drainage.
Neoclassical art is deeply committed to the calm, ordered, logical perfection of the ancient styles. The Neoclassical style was a major revival movement and also an influence on later styles. According to De La Croix and Tansey neoclassicism “embraced the idea of a changeless generality that supposedly transcends the accidents of time”. This urn would have been part of another wave of revival.
A very decorative and beautiful piece that can be displayed anywhere in the home or garden.
