Item Description
The attractive emerald green painted pine storage box having a vacant interior with its original strap-work blacksmith iron hinges, the whole with a wonderful mottled patina and texture to its surfaces and surviving from the second quarter of the nineteenth century.
The box has some obvious signs of use: there are old scratches and the paintwork has naturally distressed in the appropriate areas with a superb craquelure now akin to tortoiseshell; which is probably due to being placed by a fireside. The lock is lacking.
Trunks date back to pre-medieval times and were made in a large variety of shapes and sizes and from many different materials.
The beautifully time-worn period paint and versatile size of this box makes it highly desirable.
