Item Description
The steel eyeball hanging pendant, having the four original reflective spiral tiered steel globes with white matt painted interiors, the whole being wonderfully theatrical, each sphered suspended at graduated heights from a central canopy and pierced with discreet ventilation holes; the whole hanging from a gently arched black flex with chromed collars, very much in the style of Goffredo Reggiani, and surviving from the third quarter of twentieth century Italy.
The light is in good vintage condition, with light surface wear, minor marks and age-related patination to the chrome visible on close inspection. Wiring present but not tested; would benefit from inspection and installation by a qualified electrician. Structurally sound and complete.
These cascade globe lights emerged from the great Italian lighting ateliers of the 1960s to 80s, when chrome, mirrored surfaces and modular suspended forms defined a new futuristic domestic aesthetic. They sit comfortably in the lineage of space-age modernism; glamorous, reflective, slightly decadent, yet still remarkably usable today. Italian makers mastered this balance between industrial finish and sensual form.
A bold kinetic statement light being architectural, reflective, and quietly dramatic which hangs equally at home above a dining table, stairwell, or gallery setting where its mirrored surfaces can truly perform.
