Item Description
The beautifully weathered cast stone British Bulldogs displaying the original time worn black paint, with each dog having black glass eyes, a large navy and later white studded collar and cast iron rusted tethering chains, to black painted shaped bases, the wholes surviving from the second quarter of twentieth century England.
The condition of the wholes is pleasing with a good even spread of weathering commensurate with exposure to the elements giving them an evocative all-round character and colour. There are very small nibbled losses and chips, with a historic repair to one flank to one of the bases and one loss to the very rear of one base. One pair of eyes is later than the other. please refer to the photographs for a full visual reference.
There are more modern stone interpretations of the bulldog on the market, imitating this cast, but fewer of this date line and fewer still in pairs and with such superb original time-worn paintwork and texture.
The well-loved British Bulldog or ‘bully’ as they are fondly known are dependable, gentle dogs and they are notorious for snoring, grunting, drooling, and flatulence.
An imposing and very decorative pair of low maintenance bullys.
