Item Description
The rare and highly blithe pair of stone garden pixies, each sat crossed legged on naturalistic tree stumps with mischievous smiles and pointed hats and ears, surviving from the second quarter of the twentieth century.
The pixies are well patinated and covered in years of garden lichen with both having had repairs, which is actually reassuring of age. They have both had their heads re-attached and both have one replacement feet and some hairline cracks on the arms. Notwithstanding, they remain wonderfully attractive in their entirety and are not in any way fragile to the touch. We cannot find any other comparable examples; only contemporary poorly made ones.
Pixies are mythical creatures of folklore, considered to be particularly concentrated in the high moorland areas around Devon and Cornwall, suggesting some Celtic origin for the belief and name. In traditional regional lore, pixies are generally benign, mischievous, short of stature and attractively childlike; they are fond of dancing and gather outdoors in huge numbers to dance or sometimes wrestle, through the night.
Seemingly very scarce and masses of fun; sprinkling some fairy dust in a garden near you.
