Item Description
A George II mahogany chest of drawers, the richly figured single-plank moulded top set over four long graduated cockbeaded pine-lined drawers adorned with pierced fret brass hardware, above a deep base moulding raised on front and rear ogee bracket feet.
The low stature and compact footprint are characteristic of mid-18th-century proportions, offering a grounded architectural presence with substantial storage capacity.
Very good antique condition with an authentic country-house patina and surface wear consistent with age. Minor historic repairs and small losses to the cockbeading along with minor age lines to the top and sides. The drawers sit slightly proud, a characteristic testament to the preservation of the original 18th-century runners. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place.
English, circa 1750.
