Item Description
A late 19th century mahogany library chairside reading table, the adjustable gilt-tooled brown leather reading slope set over twin lateral drawers with a partitioned writer's compartment to one side, all raised on ring-turned legs united by a shaped undertier with spindle gallery sides.
Designed for seated use beside the deep, low-slung library armchairs of the late nineteenth century, the layout ensures side drawers are accessible alongside the seat, while the ratcheted top supports heavy leather-bound library volumes or art folios at a slight incline.
Very good antique condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.
