Item Description
Kashan is one of the most prestigious centres for Persian rug weaving, beginning in the 16th Century under the Safavid Dynasty. The workshops of the region became renowned for producing some of the most sought-after rugs of the Classical period, maintaining their craftsmanship well into the early 20th Century.
This striking 1940 example takes inspiration from earlier 17th-century designs, showcasing a graceful scrolling vine and floral pattern in beautifully faded, vegetable-dyed colors. Soft sky-blue tones contrast against a neutral grey background, with notes of chestnut and caramel beautifully accenting the overall design; while exuding the sophistication which characterise Kashan weavings, this particular piece has incorporated elements from the Mid-Century design sensibility, making it a perfect compliment to furniture both classic and contemporary. Another attractive feature is its harmonious proportion and balance, where the wide border seamlessly complements the central field, setting it apart from other carpets of its era and region.
This early 20th-century Kashan rug remains in very good practical condition for everyday use, with a tasteful age-related patina.
With its timeless appeal and understated elegance, this Carpet would make a stunning addition to a wide variety of interiors.
