Item Description
Circa 1850. An exhibition quality coromandel and brass pedestal desk, the tiered structure with brass gallery with elegant ribbed panels above a rectangular brass band in the top with blue leather insert and gilt tooled border over a frieze with three drawers with leather lined slides at opposite ends, the central drawer has a secretaire action with fold down sides, raised on a pair of pedestals, each with a bank of three graduated drawers all outlined in brass with the original locks in wonderful figured coromandel, supported on turned bulbous legs finishing with the original castors, locks stamped maker ‘F. Best, 64 A, Audrey Street and 188 Sloan Street (London)’. Providence, from the estate of ‘Virginia Fortune, Countess of Airle’.
