Item Description
An outstanding rural landscape scene of large proportions by Lois Henri Foreau (French, 1866-1938). Oil on canvas.
Paris at the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1888 onwards. He was awarded medals at the Universal Exhibition in 1891, 1892, 1894 and in 1900. He was the president of the Association of French landscape artists, and in 1911 received the title of Chevalier de la Legion D’Honneur.
This striking landscape scene depicts a shepherdess and her sheep crossing a small footbridge with the landscape extending out into background. The dominant subject of the landscape is the tree which has been masterfully painted reaching up into the morning sky. The whole work has an almost dream like quality.
The work is housed in a fine gilt frame which is in an excellent condition throughout.
