Item Description

This is a pair of sculptural, mid-century modern large table lamps with the distinctive, artistic design of Maison Charles, the Parisian luxury lighting company established in 1908 by Ernest Charles. Maison Charles is still operating today focusing on made to order bespoke pieces for private clients, galleries and interior designers. Each piece is still signed, ensuring their work is recognised for it's quality and design.

This pair are stamped with the maker's mark.

The lamps have a sleek, modernist aesthetic, typical of the 1970s. Their design combines brushed stell and chrome elements with botanical sculpture, creating a mix of elegance and bold artistic expression. Each lamp has a brushed metal drum shade, slightly tapered and they are included in the price.

At the top, each shade is capped with a pine cone decorative finial, below each shade is a metal thistle sculpture. The thistle head is textured and elongated, surrounded by curved, stylized “spines.” At the base of the thistle are leaf-like metal forms, giving the lamps an organic feel.

Each lamp rests on a rectangular metal block, giving stability and a minimalist grounding to the otherwise sculptural design.

Please take a look at all our pictures to see the intricate detail of all the skilful lighting design.

These lamps are high-end decorator pieces, combining botanical motifs with polished modern materials. They have an artistic, almost sculptural presence—more like functional art than ordinary lighting.

These chardon decorated lights have 3 bulbs each and have been rewired for the UK with black rope twisted flex. We can easily change this for any destination - please just ask us for more information.

Today, owning a vintage Maison Charles lamp is often viewed not just as owning lighting, but as collecting a piece of design history — a handcrafted object bridging fine art and functional decor.
