Item Description
An 18th Century French Cherrywood and Burr Ash Enfilade or Sideboard.
The majority of this enfilade is made from cherry wood but the drawer fronts and the centres of the door panels and the pilasters are highlighted with exceptionally figured panels of burr ash. The top is made from three planks of cherrywood. The metalware is original throughout, the handles having squared bails and wreath-form backplates. The long escutcheon plates on the cupboard sections are decorated with detailed designs of grotesques. The smaller escutcheons on the drawers are of shield form. There are ormolu capital mounts to the top of the columnar pilasters. The hinges on the cupboard doors are japanned and decorated in gilt. This decoration survives in remarkable original condition. There are three drawers above the three cupboard formation. Standing on squared toupie feet.
