Item Description
A Fine Early 18th Century Italian Walnut Commode.
This commode with its panelled drawer fronts and refined rococo escutcheons, is very much in the Italian style. The canted pilasters and conforming overhanging top are clues to the piece's Italian origins.
The commode incorporates three equally sized drawers and each drawer front includes a basic rectangular panel which then contains two more unusually shaped panels within. In the centre of these panels are brass handles which have acquired a beautiful bronze-like patination. The sides and pilasters are also panelled with multiple mouldings. The top, with quality figured walnut has one single moulding. Standing on bracket feet with scroll carving.
An attractive example of a commode from the mid 18th century with its interesting shape and high quality carving.
