Exceptional 19th Century Italian Geometric Marquetry Secretaire/Cabinet
An Exceptional 19th Century Italian Inlaid Secretaire Cabinet.
A highly decorative and exceptionally well-made 19th century Italian secretaire cabinet, displaying remarkable craftsmanship throughout.
The cabinet is richly veneered in beautifully figured timbers and extensively decorated with intricate geometric marquetry and contrasting inlay. The fall front opens to reveal a particularly impressive fitted interior of small drawers and compartments, each individually decorated with complex geometric and star motifs.
The quality continues across the entire piece, with carefully matched veneers to the sides, drawer fronts and fall, together with finely detailed inlaid borders and architectural mouldings.
A striking and highly decorative example of Italian cabinetmaking, remarkable for the complexity of its inlay and the sheer amount of craftsmanship involved.
