Item Description
This is an antique Cambridge doctor's smoking cabinet. An English, oak and cedar smoker's case, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910.
Fine cabinetry, with the added interest of being presented to a Cambridge-based doctor
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout
Superb oak stocks present fine grain interest and an abundance of medullary rays
The whole graced with a delightful warm caramel coloration
Engraved shield cartouche to the top, as presented to a Dr. George A Johnson
Gifted from an appreciative former patient to commemorate his service from 1906 - 1928
Pair of cabinet doors enclose the case, with a pair of unmarked shields to the fascia
Dressed with an inset, brass-lined lock — in working order, key present
Fitted interior offers a trio of cedar lined drawers, dressed with drop handles over pierced batwing backplates
Wider lower drawer arranged in two divisions, one larger
Reverse of the right hand door fitted with a pipe rack, offering space for three pipes
Pipe rack has a diameter of 20cm or three quarter inch for holding smaller examples
