Item Description
An exceptionally fine example of late 19th Century French chinoiserie on a handsome and grand scale bureau plat in Louis XV style. The desk of the finest quality with a beautifully tooled skiver, framed by a shaped and decorated brass mount. The frieze and legs decorated with an interlocking pattern of gilt circles and scenes of typical classical Chinoiserie decoration, on deep green ground, from the 18th Century. The bottom of the frieze and inside of the legs highlighted by a finely reeded brass mount that has the lightest of touches. The decoration is notably finer in application than became fashionable in the early 20th Century and is work of the highest quality from the period. A very special piece of furniture that can hold its own in any interior.
