Item Description
A superb early 18th century Queen Anne walnut bureau bookcase, circa 1710, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. This charming piece is presented in remarkably good condition for its age, with a warm, rich patina and beautifully figured walnut veneers throughout.
The top section features a striking double dome pediment, adorned with arched mirrored panel doors, with working lock and key. Inside, there is ample storage space for books, complemented by a pair of sliding candle trays neatly tucked beneath each door.
The lower bureau section includes a classic fall-front writing flap, which opens to reveal a fitted interior comprising:
A green leather inset writing surface
Eight pigeonholes
Four small drawers ideal for storing stationery
A central drop well compartment for additional storage
Beneath the writing section are two short drawers above two long drawers, with decorative brass swan neck handles. The piece stands sturdily on well-shaped ogee bracket feet, completing the classic Queen Anne silhouette.
This bureau bookcase separates into two parts for ease of transportation.
A lovely quality period item, full of charm and character, with a rich and glowing antique colour.
