Item Description
A wonderfully graphic gouache and watercolour by Cornish artist Victor Bramley (1934–2014). It features the iconic Jubilee Pool in Penzance, Cornwall, designed by Frank Latham in 1935. Victor has captured the clean geometric lines of the architecture, accentuated by the bright Cornish light, as well as highlighting its unique location jutting out as it does into the English Channel with nothing but sea and sky far into the distance. Inscribed to reverse. Framed in natural ash wood.
Victor Bramley was born in Sheffield, moving to St Ives, Cornwall in 1959 at the age of 25. Having found himself a studio, he began to exhibit with the Penwith Society of Arts. In 1962 he was elected to the St Ives Society of Artists. His contemporaries at that time included Barbara Hepworth, Bernard Leach, and Peter Lanyon, amongst others.
