Item Description
18th century Italian painted Prussian blue wall mirror of square form, with carved giltwood caryatid side columns and inverted breakfront moulded cornice above. Circa 1780.
The Prussian blue painted finish distinctly showing the green undertone, with gilt scroll work decoration. Some of the painted finish has flaked, mainly to the edges of the left hand side. These have been touched up at some stage.
There is evidence of old woodworm around the mirror's frame. The mirror and backboard are later replacements from sometime in the 20th century. Th mirror does show some light age to the plate, which has a few small blemishes in places. All photographs feature the actual mirror plate, except for the front view.
There are some knocks and rubbing to the gilt, with marks and hairlines in places, the frame however is solid. The back has a later fitting. We can add aged mirror plate fittings to the sides if you wish to have the piece flat against the wall.
