Item Description
Art Deco Heal's octagonal limed oak writing desk/double sided open bookcase with leather inset top. Labelled. Circa 1930.
The desk comes with the 2006 receipt from Heal's, along with the Heal's exhibition booklet that it was featured in - 'The Arts & Crafts Library - A Selling Exhibition'.
The desk is of excellent quality and overall in very good original condition, showing some light marks to the limed finish in places. The desk has the original leather inset, this shows plenty of character with all over signs of use, marks and differences in colour and a slight opening to one end. Please refer to the photographs.
The desk is solid in construction with no loose joints and free from any woodworm. The drawers work very well, there is a red ink mark to one.
As the photographs suggest, the desk is finished all round, allowing it to be placed anywhere in a room with all sides on show. Should you decide to place it against a wall, the cupboard would make a very useful hiding places for valuables.
The cupboard door has a key which works the lock. There is a dowel mark where a wooden handle would have originally been.
The kneehole is 59cm high x 50.5cm wide. It can take books 24.5cm and 22.5cm high.
