Item Description
19th century French mirror, circa 1870, with wide frame decorated with raised ropetwist bands either side of a rippled central panel which has an attractive, dragged design, creating a chevron pattern - reminiscent of icing on a cake! Where this mirror has been dusted for well over a century, the gilding has thinned a little revealing the warm terracotta bole and cream gesso beneath the gold leaf, giving the mirror frame a very attractive colour and patina. The original glass is in very good condition with just a hint of age and gives an excellent reflection. This versatile mirror will look just as good hung landscape and would work well hung this way as an overmantel where height above the mantel is restricted.
