Item Description
Late 19th century Italian mirror with a wide frame with outset corners decorated with a geometric panels containing a mixture of punched and etched designs of leaves, flowers and curling stems. Originally finished in gold leaf, after more than a hundred years of vigorous dusting (!) the gold leaf has thinned considerably revealing the warm, terracotta, burnished bole which is the base on which gold leaf is applied. The original glass has light age in the form of horizontal streaking but still gives a good reflection. This handsome mirror would make an eye-catching overmantel.
