Item Description
Antique French Regence period mirror (1715-23) with carved, giltwood frame and high, pierced "fronton" decorated with gilt panels etched with a criss-cross pattern, bordered by curling acanthus leaves, a central basket with flowers below a semi-circle, topped with a shell. The outcurving outer frame has carved flowers and leaves at each corner and the inner frame is beaded with an etched flower at each corner. Inset sections of foxed mercury glass lie between the two frames and the central, original glass is also mercury backed, has age but still gives a fair reflection. This mirror has a beautiful patina from its years of dusting and where there is little of the gold leaf remaining, is a burnished chestnut brown.
