Item Description

The most exquisite burr walnut veneers were used when constructing this handsome commode nearly two centuries ago. In that time they have mellowed and seasoned to the most beautiful colour developing a deep rich patina.  The original pale grey marble top is crammed with fossils and veining, it sits neatly above four wide drawers housed within the sturdy carcass. The drawers all fit perfectly and  run smoothly, each one with original lock, brass escutcheon and a key purely for opening. A superb example of a 19th century commode raised on two square feet to the back with two pretty shaped pedestal feet to the front. France circa 1860.
