Item Description
This beautiful cherrywood chest offers seven substantial drawers and was originally designed for each drawer to hold fresh linens or clothes for each day of the week, the name deriving from the French word semaine. The drawers are beautifully constructed with fine dovetail joints and solid maple interiors having cherrywood fronts. Six of the seven drawers still with their original quality brass handles and traditional shield escutcheons, the top drawer never having handles, just a plain simple front. The seven drawers are each housed within a tall elegant cherrywood carcass flanked on either side by tall cylindrical columns embellished with finely chased antique brass capitals. A tall period chest that will mix comfortably with antique or contemporary style living. Cherrywood semainier. France Empire period circa 1840.
