Item Description
Extra long 1960’s Dalescraft teak sideboard
Very few of these 8ft sideboards were sold back in the day as they would have been very expensive and too large for most buyers. The only other British maker to produce a sideboard of this size was Archie Shine, and the only one you’ll find that was larger was the Troeds Grand which was about 13cms longer.
Dalescraft of Pudsey were a medium sized family run business aiming like Shine and A Younger at a wealthier customer than makers like G Plan and McIntosh. As this market shrank in the late 1960’s they moved into high class contract work specialising in fitting out court rooms. Their managing director Malcolm David Walker known as David was also their very accomplished designer and at this time he was highly influenced by Danish design. Dalescraft sideboards like this are certainly equal in quality to Danish ones made at the same time. The teak veneers used on this one along with the lovely tambour doors are really nice features which make it stand out from the crowd.
Condition
Cleaned and oiled there are no obvious marks or scratches and the doors slide beautifully. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely.
Dalescraft like other high end makers, both Scandinavian and British used natural oiled finishes in the 1960’s. From around 1965 G Plan and others moved over to polyurethane finishes which we think is a shame as oiled
