Item Description

ANTIQUE ITALIAN ARMCHAIR

An elegant chair with carved scrolling arms, a carved, shaped back with decorative fret carved splats on reeded tapered front legs and slightly outswept back legs united with an H-stretcher.

Original muted gilding throughout.

The seat pad has pretty floral silk fabric. Whilst probably not original, this appears to be antique and complements the chairs well.

The chair is Venetian in origin and probably dates from the late 18th/early 19th century period. Circa 1790-1810.

The chair is in good condition for its age. It is a perfectly usable chair and can be sat on. There is some slight movement in the joints, so I would probably suggest it being used as a side/occasional or bedroom chair rather than an everyday dining chair. The original gilding is worn but highly decorative. The silk on the seat pad is worn in places. Again, we love the way this looks, but it could easily be replaced. There is some old, dead woodworm present throughout the chair, which has been treated for good measure.

Approximate overall measurements: 94cm high x 55cm wide x 51cm deep. The seat height is roughly 49cm.
