Item Description

ANTIQUE ORIGINAL OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING

Depicting a rural scene at sunset, a farmer is sat on horse drawn mechanical mower with a three horse hitch in expansive rolling fields flanked by thickets of trees and with hills in the far background.

Painted in a charming naive, folky manner.

Possibly continental in origin, it could possibly be French, it is signed indistinctly to the lower right.

Probably dating from the late 19th century period, circa 1880-1900.

Framed in its original fairly deep set, textured gilt frame.

Overall the painting is in good vintage condition. There are a couple of small tears/small holes which have historic repairs. There is wear consistent with age and it appears to have been barn stored which has given the piece an overall dusty finish which we think adds to its charm and aesthetic but it could be cleaned to a brighter finish if so desired.

Approximate measurements: Frame 71cm x 51cm x 6cm. Canvas 60cm x 40cm.
