Antique Victorian Doulton & Co. 'Simplicitas' Toilet With Transfer Decoration

A truly stunning and possibly the finest example of a Victorian toilet we have seen, the sought after Simplicitas model from Doulton & Co. unusually, this example is completely covered with its blue and white transfer print running all over, including inside the pan itself.

We are unsure of the exact name of the print but it is in the chinoiserie taste, profusely covered with flowers and foliage.

There is a label inside the bowl with the maker and model name inscribed ‘Doulton & Co, London, The “Simplicitas” (Patent), Works, Lambeth & Paisley’.

The Royal warrant was issued to Doulton in 1901 and the Paisley factory opened in 1888 so this example probably dates from between those dates 1888-1901.

There is also an impressed mark on the back which also dates it between 1882-1901.

Overall it is in good vintage condition with wear throughout commensurate with age including some minor surface scratches, areas of discolouration and very minor grazes/bruises to the glaze, mainly on the rim. On close inspection there are two hairline cracks present, one on the front left edge, near the base and the other on the front right hand side floor fixing hole. Neither of these seem serious or structural and don’t appear to affect the functionality of the plumbing.

As it previously formed part of an antique sanitary ware collection it was mounted onto a wooden board, this is easily removed.
