Item Description

ANTIQUE VICTORIAN STORAGE CABINET

A characterful and useful cupboard of fairly narrow proportions with a decorative cornflower blue painted finish. Unusually the two panelled doors open the same way, each revelling a separate storage section with five internal shelves.

The layers of old paint have naturally worn over time to great decorative effect. The top layer of pale dusky blue paint is worn in places, revealing other shades of blues and greens and the original scumbled finish underneath, which can still be seen on the inside of the doors.

The cupboard is probably English in origin and probably dates from the mid-19th century period. It probably started life in country house somewhere as a utility cupboard and has an estate made feel to it. Quite often this type of furniture was moved from place to place and used for different uses, and was adapted along the way, building up a certain level of unique character.

Overall the cupboard is in good usable vintage condition. It feels solid and sturdy. There is wear throughout commensurate with age and use which adds to its charm nd tells its story. There is some old dead woodworm present which we have treated for good measure.

Approximate measurements: 156cm high x 154cm wide x 27cm deep (30cm deep including the brass door handles).
