ANTIQUE ORIGINAL OIL ON BOARD PAINTING
Depicting a rural scene with vernacular buildings under a blue sky with magnificent clouds looking through trees in the foreground.
Painted in a quick, confident impressionist style by a competent hand.
Inscribed verso, ‘Mal: Wacław Hladuński, 1936 r. we Lwowie’.
Which roughly translates as ‘Painted by Waclaw Hladuński, Year 1936 in Lviv (Lwów)’.
When this painting was painted, Lviv (now forming part of Western Ukraine) was part of Poland, Given the date of 1936 and the location of Lwów,, this piece comes from a time when the city was a thriving Polish cultural hub. During the interwar period, many artists like Hladuński were part of vibrant local art circles.
