Item Description
A late 17th-century Dutch Delft lidded baluster jar, decorated in blue and white in the Chinoiserie taste. Two figures stand within a lakeside landscape, framed by trees and a bridge, with mountains and buildings rising in the distance. The base and neck are of octagonal form, echoed by the octagonal edge of the domed lid, decorated with vivid scrolls. The scene is rendered in dynamic lines of manganese, softened by painterly blue brushwork. Marked to the base 'GK' for Pieter Gerritsz. Kam, the 'Drie Posteleyne Astonne' workshop, Delft, 1679-1700.
A rare lidded jar of exquisite small scale, in very good condition.
- Height with lid: 19 cm
- Diameter: 10 cm
- Minor glaze losses to the edge, commensurate with age, otherwise very good condition.
- Marked to the base 'GK' for Pieter Gerritsz. Kam, the 'Drie Posteleyne Astonne' workshop, Delft, 1679-1700.
