Item Description
A French early 20th-century oil painting on canvas by Fernand Pineau Chaillou (1875-1950), depicting the harbour at Douelan in Brittany in an earthy palette of ochre, brown and turquoise. Sailboats lie moored in a creek, a walled path occupying the foreground, while trees, whitewashed houses with slate roofs and a lighthouse rise on an elevated bank beyond. The viewpoint, set behind the wall and looking up across the harbour, embeds the viewer in the scene while characterful architectural details create a vivid sense of place. Dynamic brushwork blends architecture and nature softly, animating the stillness of the moored boats.
An evocative harbour scene with quiet atmosphere, signed and located lower right, presented in its original giltwood frame.
- Framed dimensions: 47 x 54 cm
- Painting dimensions: 38 x 46 cm
- The painting in excellent condition.
- Original giltwood frame, with slight wear to the edges, otherwise very good condition.
- Signed ‘F Fernand Chaillou’ and located ‘Douelan’ lower right.
