An early 19th-century French faience lidded butter dish from Northern France, of generous circular form with two handles and retaining its original lid, surmounted by a small knob. The body, lid and handles are decorated in blue and white with graceful garlands of flowers and concentric lines, in the classical taste.
A rare and charming piece, combining functional form with elegant decorative presence.
