Item Description
A French giltwood mirror of the Restauration period, c. 1830, of rectangular form with an arched plate. The frame is decorated with a frieze of oak leaves, acanthus and acorns, with rosettes at each corner. The arched form recalls the early Gothic Revival, while the overall ornament is characteristic of the lighter, more romantic decoration of the Restauration style. The gilt finish is in excellent condition. The mirror plate is original, with a slight mottled appearance.
A rare mirror of versatile small scale, with refined Restauration ornament.
