Item Description
This 1980s French stoneware studio pottery vase, converted into a table lamp, is decorated with loose blue brushstrokes framed by bands of brown glaze featuring sgraffito lozenge motifs on a warm grey ground. These encircling bands culminate around a sun-like shape in blue and brown, overlaid on one side with a translucent white glaze that accentuates the design.
Its graceful round form amplifies the circular movement of the decoration and highlights the striking contrast between painterly blue brushwork, sculptural sgraffito geometry, and fluid white glaze. Marked at the base and of generous size, a rare and refined studio pottery lamp in excellent condition, with elegant layered colours and impressive craftsmanship.
