An original abstract composition by Gérard Larat (1929-2015), signed by the artist and acquired directly from his studio, c1960. French painter Larat came to art by an unusual route, first working as a trapeze artist before discovering painting in the creative milieu of Montmartre during the 1950s and 1960s.
His abstract compositions are characterised by expressive brushwork, layered textures, and an intuitive use of colour. This work exemplifies Larat's painterly approach, combining gestural marks and subtle tonal contrasts to create a composition that is both dynamic and contemplative.
Presented in a bespoke hand-painted frame finished with layers of chalk dust and wax to create a softly textured surface, while the painting is protected behind museum-quality glazing set within the inner aperture.
