Baroque period gilt wood mirror, a masterful example of early 18th century craftsmanship. The faded gilded frame features two intricately carved cherubs "holding" the mirror plate, enrobed in swags and drapery they add a playful and elegant touch to the whole. The patination and faded original gilding create a dramatic grandeur and encapsulate the opulent style of the Baroque era. Original gilding, wonderfully wobbly period mirror plate. Losses to each cherub (arm). Heavily worn gilding. Circa 1740. Italy.
