A unusual pigment and oil on board portrait of an elderly Chinese gent by Susan Jayne Hocking
The painting has a thick impasto application with sgraffito mark making, and what appears to be the use of pure ground pigment on top.
Produced around 1997
Provence, the piece was purchased from the Sir David Wing-cheung Tang collection
(B. 1962, England) British artist Susan Jayne Hocking was born in 1962 in Dorset; she attended Bristol Polytechnic where she did her B.A in 1985. After a postgraduate diploma Hocking went on to a postgraduate degree at the Royal Academy Schools between 1987 – 1990.
During this time, Hocking participated in exhibitions such as Ten Young Artists at the Mall Gallery, Women in Art at the Bowmoore Gallery, London, Tabernacle Gallery, London & Blenheim Gallery, London among others.
Susan Jayne Hocking continued to exhibit at many notable galleries, both in London & worldwide. Including the Nomadic Zone Gallery, Berlin, France & Spain, the New Grafton Gallery & the Waterhouse Group & R.B. Sandell. Whilst annually continuing to have work selected into the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions.
