Item Description

Janus is the Roman god of beginnings, transition, duality, doorways, passages and endings. He is depicted as having two faces as in this magnificent and extremely rare example that was discovered recently in Venice, Italy. This is an ancient artifact of exceptional artistic quality that is hand carved from a block of white marble. When discovered it was stated that it might date from the 1400's. However, it could be much older than that. The presence of this sculpture is powerful and truly exceptional. The craftsmanship that went into its creation is astonishing. This is a remarkable antique masterpiece like no other. It measures about 33 x 21 x 33 cm or approximately 13 x 8 x 13 inches and it is in wonderful antique condition with signs of ageing expected from such items. It is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
