Item Description
This is an incredible and extremely rare antique French shop sign that consist of the Eye of God or Eye of Providence held by two angels. The eye is surrounded by clouds and rays of light, denoting to the heavens. This one of a kind treasure is made of metal and once it was fully gilded. This has flaked away during the centuries creating in the process a mesmerising timeworn and distressed patina that is just exquisite. Below the angels are two hooks which once held the name of the shop [not in existence any longer]. On the back there is still the original fitting with a long part that could be used as the easel "leg". This way it could be displayed on a flat surface with this support [as shown in the last image]. Otherwise it could also look exceptional if shown on a wall. It measures about 33 x 50 cm or approximately 13 x 20 inches and it is exactly as I discovered it recently in the South of France with signs of ageing that in my opinion only bring forth its true beauty and splendour today.
