Item Description
This is a magnificent antique French swan that is entirely hand carved from wood and gilded. Once it was most certainly a crowning part of a grand frame or a piece of furniture that was created during the late 18th or a very early 19th century, known in France as the Empire period - renowned for its refined style and design - featuring often swans as other fantastic creatures. It measures about 33 x 26 x 11 cm or approximately 13 x 10.2 x 4.3 inches. The swan is in lovely antique condition with signs of ageing that in my opinion only brings forth its true captivating beauty and splendour today with a gloriously timeworn and distressed patina.
