This is an outstanding sacred heart in a gilded wrought iron frame that was just discovered in the Piedmont region of Italy. The central circular part measuring 20 cm or about 8 inches in diameter contains - under glass - an exquisite antique French sacred heart that dates from the mid 19th century. The heart is an exceptional goldwork embroidery raised slighttly from the rays of light on a deep red velvet. This gives it a fantastic 3D effect of captivating beauty and allure. From the heart curled branches of hand hammered and gilded wrought iron are creating a magnificent frame that is further embellished with fantastic flowers and foliage. Created in Italy with great artistry and crafsmanship at a later age [perhaps in the early 20 century] it measures an impressive 67 x 103 x 14 cm or approximately 26.3 x 40.5 x 5.5 inches and it is in lovely condition with minor signs of ageing mainly seen in a stunning patina on the gilding.
