Item Description
This a a precious and rare antique French painting that dates from the early 18th century. It is a wonderful oil painting on a copper plate that was discovered recently in Avignon in the South of France. The painting depicts St John the Baptist with the Lamb. St John is in a sitting position, collecting water from a source. Behind him is the Lamb, a symbolic representation of the Christ. This is a gorgeous treasure of great beauty and meaning. It is in a gilded frame, measuring about 24 x 21 x 3.5 cm or approximately 9.4 x 8.2 x 1.3 inches. Just the painting is 16 x 13 cm or about 6.2 x 5.1 inches. In lovely antique condition and exactly as I discovered it, with some signs of ageing mainly seen in a lovely patina created by the passage of time. For the full condition please refer to the images!
