Item Description

This is a truly remarkable antique Italian treasure that was discovered recently in Verona. Dating from the 17th century or earlier, this magnificent artefact was created as an architectural ornament and most certainly used as a water collecting basin. The front is adorned with a lion's head with paws and long horns. In the past such fantastical creatures would play a significant part in decorating noble palaces and mansions as it was believed that such fierce beasts would protect one's home from evil spirits and entities. The vessel is completely hand carved from a single large block of marble with exceptional artistic quality and craftsmanship. It measures about 23 x 53 x 43 cm or approximately 9 x 21 x 17 inches and it is in lovely antique condition and exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!

Such rare treasures are exquisite and can be used in interiors as well as being unique outdoor displays, in gardens or on terraces as desired. They can be used as sculptural centre pieces, water features or plant containers.
