Item Description
An early 19th century English carved mahogany sculpture of a griffin, circa 1820; one of two similar we have for sale.
This piece is prominently in the style of the late 18th/early 19th century English Regency sculptor and furniture-maker, George Bullock (1777-1818). It depicts a griffin; the mythical creature of legend with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle.
Formerly used as a table base, this carved griffin sculpture now makes a decorative architectural piece of statuary for interior display, looking particularly striking when viewed from its side as first pictured.
Style alone on an interior pedestal where its beauty and craftsmanship can be admired. Alternatively, use alongside the other griffin sculpture we are selling either side of a doorway, staircase or large mantelpiece to bring a sense of drama and symmetry to a space.
