Item Description
An antique Victorian copper planter dating to circa 1850.
Originally known as a ‘copper', this handmade piece has a lightly patinated surface creating a striking shine to the copper.
During the Victorian period, coppers acted as washing boiler pans found in grand homes. Housed in a brick structure, the pots were in the scullery or washing outhouse with a fire grate below to heat the water for washing.
Today, this mid 19th century piece could be used as a stylish log basket or striking planter thanks to its practical size and handsome design.
CONDITION REPORT
Good structural condition. Historic, characterful repair to one side. No hole in the base. Joints are riveted. Nice clean surface wear. Lightly patinated surface.
